Three Reasons Why God’s Presence Is My Good

Psalm 73:28: “But as for me, God’s presence is my goodI have made the Lord God my refuge, so I can tell about all You do.”

God’s presence means…..

My Witness. {So I can tell about all You do} As my life reflects more and more the presence of God, I can’t help but tell others. Throughout the Psalms, we read how God rescues, redeems, restores, and is a refuge for all of His people. The response to all of those things is to tell others! For the Psalmist, that was singing. For us, it may mean we show our Rescurer by reaching out those around us. Sending notes of love and encouragement. Speaking to a neighbor for just a few extra minutes at the mailbox. Baking some cookies for our coworkers. So many people are looking for good in their life….we have the answer! Living in the presence of God means we will SHINE our light to the world (Matthew 5:14).

My Protection. {I have made the Lord God my refuge} All of the fears in this life can be erased from my heart with the simple trust in my God. He is a refuge (Psalm 16:1Psalm 46:1). A place of safety and protection. Living in His presence means all of the evil in the world I fear will come to myself or my family cannot keep me from the path. As I was talking to a friend about her dream to travel to Europe, she expressed her fears of bringing her daughters along. The evil in the world is real and powerful. We have a God who is stronger. He  will always be stronger than our deepest fear and darkest hurt. Living in the presence of God reminds us of His protection.

My Good. {But as for me, God’s presence is my good.} Anything in my life that is good, comes from God (James 1:17). Let’s be honest. I can be tired of the whining and demands. Those “good things” i.e. my husband, children, responsibilities…..it doesn’t always seem GOOD. Anything I have, if it is to be good, is found to be good while I’m siting in the presence of God. As I find myself studying more in the Bible, spending more time praying, the things in my life, the people in my life, seem to be better. I feel more at peace and less stressed. Ultimate good is found in God’s presence. Living in the presence of God is my good.

  3. I love that we become more aware of how good the things are that God has given us when we get still in His Presence. They have been good things all along, but we weren’t able to see it, or at least remember it, until we got still in His blessed Presence again.

  4. 3 beautiful reasons. So thankful that because of Christ, we can come before Him confidently and be His children- Him with us, us in His presence. Thanks for lovely reminders today!

  5. one of my favs – just quoted it this morning at Women’s Bible Study – so fun to be back after the summer break. God’s nearness is my good. Glad he knew it, and glad I’m learning it.
