Five Minute Free Writes – Every week I join a special group of writers to write for FIVE MINUTES. No editing. No revising. Just WRITE. Each week the prompt is revealed Thursday evening. You can find more information here.
This week our prompt is: Quiet
The quiet is my favorite. I used to say. Now, the sound of quiet is rarely heard in my house. The noises of children laughing (and fighting) echo the halls. In the living room, at night, when they all go to bed. A peace descends like from heaven. A settledness fills the air.
I think, this must be heaven. And maybe I’m not altogether off. For the quiet brings a sense of belonging. A sense of comfort. Peace. A settled joy in our hearts. Isn’t that the promise of heaven. Not that voices will cease. Not that our tongues will ever stop praising our Savior. But maybe heaven carries with it the promise of a quiet for our hearts. No more anxiety. No more tears. No more frustrations or anger.
Heaven promises us a quiet for our souls. Our souls, who down here on earth, toil and labor. Here in the coldness of the winter, we feel a sense of quiet and nature holds it breath. Our souls are in the midst of winter at times. But Spring is coming.
We know our season of winter will not last forever. Spring will come. The birds will wake. The flowers will bud. Our eternal spring is coming. Our souls will come alive and blossom where we were meant to be. The promise of Heaven is a promise of quiet.
