Adoption has always been God’s “Plan A.” Ephesians 1:5 says “He (The Father) predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will.” These stories are from those who have chosen adoption as “Plan A.”
Today Baylor shares part TWO of her story

….We called our circle of warriors, the people who had surrounded us and fought alongside us from day one. And we celebrated together that the Lord was doing this awesome thing in our lives.
And so we began completing the paperwork to accept our referral. I think by this point we had signed every piece of paper under the sun.
It took seven painful months, but at last we were granted a court date to go meet our boy and go to court to legally become his parents.
Packing for that trip was such a surreal thing. We were finally about to get on an airplane to fly across the globe and meet our son. We had longed for this moment for years, and it was finally here.
So after an overnight flight with no chance of sleep it was finally time to go do the very thing we had been praying for for three years. Meet our son.
That day is and always will be one of the best of my life. To see God’s faithfulness come to fruition in the life of a little boy, our little boy…well, the English language does not have the words for that.
We spent the week getting to know him, and each day he came out of his shell a little more. On our second to last day in country, we went to court and stood before a judge promising to love Bradley for the rest of our lives. It was such a gospel moment. To stand and officially say, “We choose to make this child our son. We understand that this cannot be undone.” In those moments I was so keenly aware of God’s adoption of me, of Him choosing me knowing that it could not be undone. Adoption is so breathtakingly beautiful.
And then we had to leave Ethiopia without our son. We did not know when we would be allowed to return to bring him home for good, but we were trying our best to trust in God and His sovereign timing. We had pleaded with our adoption agency to allow me to stay in Ethiopia with Bradley until we were cleared to bring him home. And we were refused at every turn. Devastated and angry at what seemed so senseless, I begged God to intervene, to change hearts and decisions. We asked up until the day we left Ethiopia, and the answer was always no.
Again, I felt disappointed in God. Why was He asking me to leave my son in an orphanage one second longer than was necessary? It all felt so pointless. But it wasn’t. God was up to something that I absolutely could not have fathomed.
Exactly one month after our court date, my mom and I were headed back across the Atlantic to bring Bradley home forever. It was the most nervous I had ever been.
After a week in a hotel room with a one year old, it was finally time to head home. I will say that I have never known fear like I did waiting to board that 17 hour flight from Addis to D.C. I was still a stranger to Bradley, so I’m sure to him this felt more like a kidnapping than a flight home to his loving family. But the Lord was with us all the way, and we made it in one piece. And because we needed some added drama at the last minute, our final flight was cancelled. We ended up flying into a different airport, but I absolutely did not care. Our boy was finally home for good. God had done it. He redeemed our family through this beautiful thing called adoption, and in doing so, He revealed more to us about His character than I could explain in a lifetime.
And remember how I was so angry about not being able to stay in Ethiopia between trips? Well, ten days after we landed in the U.S. with our son, we found out what God was up to all along. Turns out, we are expecting the arrival of our daughter in just five weeks, a blessing we would not have received if I had pushed and gotten my way last summer.
So more than anything else, I have learned that God can be trusted, that His Plan A for my life and for yours will far surpass anything we could even try to think up on our own.
