Five Minute Free Writes – Every week I join a special group of writers to write for FIVE MINUTES. No editing. No revising. Just WRITE. Each week the prompt is revealed Thursday evening. You can find more information here.
This week our prompt is: Focus
In the age of social media, it is hard to keep our focus. I’m distracted. Discouraged. I tend to lose my focus in the daily. With four little ones, my days rarely go as planned. I’m ok with that, but it is hard to keep focused. I wake up every morning with grand plans! With lots of things to check off. But then. The littles wake up. So, like this morning, my schedule and plans are thrown off. I spend an hour cuddling my newest daughter. Who screams and cries when she sees me after daddy goes back to work. It throws me off.
I am tying to do better. Instead of losing my focus for the day, I try to hop back on track. I try to not look at the clock and move forward. Moving forward (running) is something that takes focus. Focusing on what is important. I can focus on a lot of things. I can focus on what all I have to get done. Or I can do the next thing. I can focus on my huge goals for 2016, or I can focus on the next step for those goals.
I’ve recently started using Lara Casy’s new Powersheets and I love them. It seems silly, but one area I have been moving forward in is my cross stitch. I have looked at this huge pattern I’ve been working on and get overwhelmed. But focusing on the big picture was not helping. So, I began see the smaller picture. Each square. I wouldn’t count how many I did. I would just do it. And I’ve accomplished more in the past month than I had in the past six months.
I’ve learned that when I lose focus on the small things, the big things automatically come.
