Five Minute Free Writes – Every week I join a special group of writers to write for FIVE MINUTES. No editing. No revising. Just WRITE. Each week the prompt is revealed Thursday evening. You can find more information here.
This week our prompt is: Forget
Sometimes I forget how faithful He is. I try to remember. I hang up cards with the word “faithful” beside my writing desk. I buy a bracelet with it etched in clay to wear around my wrist. I memorize the scripture to remind me of His faithful mercies and great faithfulness.
Yet, as I think about the future, I still worry. How am I going to do it? How will this really work out? I forget. I forget He has been with me. His fingerprints all over my past. Why do I doubt His hand about the future?
I can understand why Moses instructed, urged, and implied the Israelites to write down and wear God’s Word. For them to remember. As our Sunday School class goes through Joshua, and the Israelites defeat the Canaanites, they made altar after altar. Why? To remember.
Maybe God knows how much I tend to forget. Maybe He knows I am but dust. So, the importance of daily remembering. Daily reciting. Daily recalling all of His wonderful deeds. The benefit of living with my God in the daily is that I can start each day remembering.
Remembering Who He is.
Remembering What He has done.
I am so prone to forget, but His faithfulness is something I never, ever want to forget. In my unfaithfulness, I am reminded again of his GREAT faithfulness, new every morning.
