Five Minute Free Writes – Every week I join a special group of writers to write for FIVE MINUTES. No editing. No revising. Just WRITE. Each week the prompt is revealed Thursday evening. You can find more information here.
This week our prompt is: Alive
Set your timer….and begin!
Alive. On the cross Your body hung. For my sins. For my stains. For the heart of evil beating in my chest. You hung. What sorrow you bore for me. Your heart and body was pierced for me. Your wounds hung there, for all to see. O Lamb of God. You died. You shed Your blood, bright and red. Down Your face it poured. Through the nails in Your hands and feet. You came, a perfect sacrifice in your steadfast love. In your gracious good favor and mercy, You stayed. You stayed until the end. Until your heart stopped beating and the last breath left your lungs.
On this Good Friday.
O Lamb of God, You ask me to come to the foot of the cross today. To see the pain and hear the suffering in your sacrifice. Not to make my feel the guilt or shame of why You hung there. You call me to come, just as I am. To feel the love and grace.
Where sin left a horrid stain, grace left an even deeper stain. A glorious stain. A mark, making me a beloved daughter. Broken, you asked me to come. Just as I am. Because Friday is not the end of Your story, or mine.
Just as I am, I come to be made alive. The blood which was shed for me, is the path to life. A path to New Life. Alive. For Sunday is coming. Today, as I remember the pain and shame of the sin which set you on that cross, I come. I bow before You, rejoicing in the Good. Rejoicing in the Grace. Friday’s darkness led us to the Grace in Sunday.
Just as I am, without one plea,
But that thy blood was shed for me.
And that thy bidet me come, to Thee
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.
