Five Minute Free Writes – Every week I join a special group of writers to write for FIVE MINUTES. No editing. No revising. Just WRITE. Each week the prompt is revealed Thursday evening. You can find more information here.
This week our prompt is: News
News. I’ve got the Good News of the Gospel. And something I’ve learned along the way this year, the gospel isn’t about making everything OK down here on earth. The mountains will still tremble. The waters will roar and foam, but the good news is: our God is still God.
The Good News means we don’t need to fear.
The Good News means we have a Savior to rescue us.
The Good News means, no matter how many times I fail: the blood covers it.
The Good News means Truth.
The truth of it, I’m sorry to say, means we won’t always get our way. Or our wishes. No matter how noble or “right” they may seem. The truth of it is, if we focus our entire life on what God is doing, we will be disappointed. We can’t know all He is doing. But we can know Him. The truth of it is, the reason I can say the news is good is because of Who brings the news.
Our God is still faithful, even when it seems He has abandoned us.
Our God is still loving, even when people do unloving things.
Our God is still a Savior, even when everyone we know is turning away from Him.
Our God is still good.
Did you hear that news? Our God is still good. I can’t say it because life has been easy. I can’t say it when I see the hurt it others eyes. When friends and acquaintances are struggling to make it through the waiting game or parenting a hard child, I can say with confidence: God is still good. I can say it, not because I know what He is doing, but because I know Who He is.
My God is good, and that’s the best news ever.
