Dig Deeper with Process

I love reading God’s Word. I have a pretty good process for reading through scripture. As I began to study a passage closely, I hit a brick wall.

I’ve spent the past few weeks creating a special PDF for you to use how you wish! Hopefully these little cards will remind you to read with purpose, perspective, process, and prayer.

Suddenly, I was lost. I didn’t know how to go from just reading to studying. Without a study guide or someone leading me through a passage I felt lost. Jen Wilkin’s book, Women of the Word * taught me how I can study without someone holding my hand.

Today, let’s dig deeper into reading the Bible with a Process!

Use whatever passage you are reading in your Bible right now to answer the following questions. {And if you don’t have a current reading place, let’s start with the book of I John!}

You can read it here.

Pick up your Bible and read through a few verses (or an entire chapter would be better). Ask yourself: What does it say? Spend most of your first time reading making notes of this. Read it over and over again. Read it slowly. Read it in different translation. This part is comprehension. The majority of Bible study will be spent on this step. Next, ask yourself, what does it mean? Before you run to your commentaries or study Bible, figure out what YOU think it means. Use your knowledge from step one to answer step two. Finally, ask, how should it change me?

“A person who comprehends  the account of the six days of creation in Genesis 1 can tell you specifically what happened on each day. A person who interprets the creation story can tell you why God created in a particular order or way. A person who applies the creation story can tell you that because God creates in an orderly fashion,we too should olive a well-ordered lives….Knowledge of God gleaned through comprehension of the text nd interpretation of its meaning can now be applied to life in a way that challenges the student to be different.” – JW Women of the Word*

Print this {{FREE}} printable, cut out the cards, color them, and stick them in your Bible as reminders to read with PROCESS!
