Five Minute Free Writes – Every week I join a special group of writers to write for FIVE MINUTES. No editing. No revising. Just WRITE. Each week the prompt is revealed Thursday evening. You can find more information here.
This week our prompt is: Pass
Pass. To pass through. Get through. Make it through. “This too, shall pass.” It isn’t just a nice sentiment. It is truth. Truth that all of the hard and broken and hurting thing in my life never last forever. Did the hard things linger? Yes. Lingered longer than maybe I want them to. Stayed closer and become more a part of me.
The difficult trials do usually pass. Or, we learn to live in the midst of them. In the midst of a diagnosis. In the midst of raising a special need’s child. In the midst of grief and loss. Sometimes the grief never leaves completely, but we work our way through it. We will pass through without being consumed by the fire of the trial.
It is working in our hearts to change us. The season of suffering is a season of sanctification. If you let it. Our beautiful God makes all things beautiful. Even the things we wish would pass. Even the hurt and pain He is using for our good and His glory.
We don’t just need to wait for it to pass. Don’t look up to find Him in heaven, waiting for this thing to pass. Look next to you. Right now, in the middle of the hurricane, He is holding you together. He is working on your heart. He is changing you to be more like Him.
It will pass. And when it does, you will so beautiful. Because you will be a little more like Him.
But now thus says the Lord,
he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.
For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
