Five Minute Free Writes – Every week I join a special group of writers to write for FIVE MINUTES. No editing. No revising. Just WRITE. Each week the prompt is revealed Thursday evening. You can find more information here.
This week our prompt is: Cheer
Start your timer….and go!
Sometimes it is easy to cheer on others. We clap for our kids. We love to see our friends celebrate. We rejoice with those who (we love who) are rejoicing. What about the stranger? The competitor? When the person you’ve never met achieves something you’ve always wanted? It is so hard to cheer someone on. To stand up and give them praise. If we praise those who will only praise us back, we are indeed poor. If we praise those who will never see our praise, if we cheer on, as anonymous people, how much more!
Sometimes in our cheering on of others, we expect they will do the same. And when they don’t. How it stings!? We pour our lives and empty ourselves into other people, but they don’t pour into us. We think our wells are empty. But God is filling our wells. We can still pour out our praise and cheer on our friends. We can empty ourselves because it is the Christian (Christ) life.
May I live a life that doesn’t require someone else to give back.
May I live a life of cheering others on, no matter what they can give me.
May I live a life so connected to the Vine, I can empty myself of vanity and pride. I don’t have to be praised. I am already loved. I am already wanted. I am already chosen.
When we see our position in Christ, how freeing! We can be the loudest cheerleader for everyone!
