Five Minute Free Writes – Every week I join a special group of writers to write for FIVE MINUTES. No editing. No revising. Just WRITE. Each week the prompt is revealed Thursday evening. You can find more information here.
This week our prompt is: Expect
Let’s start writing…..Go!
What do you expect the first time around….the second….or third? When you have this event in your life, so big, you go in with no expectations, but that’s just not true. Expectations are there. Always. Inevitable. So, the second time around you go in with different expectations, but knowing things will not be the same.
Each time I gave birth, nothing went like my expectations. At the time it was hard. Really hard. Each time was different. Even adoption was nothing like I expected. Marriage. A new job. A move. A house.
The things in life we want to control are the ones to first slip through our fingers. As I gaze outside, the familiar of my life is at war with the uncertain as well. So many questions as we begin new adventures. So many unknowns.
I am so thankful the unknowns are known by God. I can rest a little easy during each step of the adventure of life is ordered by the heavenly Father. A Father who is not unknown. A Father who sent His Son so the trinity could be known.
We don’t always know what to expect, but we can know the One who knows. We can hold fast to the truths. We can praise Him even in the deep end. God sees our expectations and gives us so much more. So much more. I do not like be in the dark when it comes the future, but my future is full of light when it is in His hands.
I might never stop having expectations, but I can learn to lean a little bit more in the God who holds me. Abiding a little more in Him. For in Christ, I find my expectations are always met. I find I can expect good things and God provides. Every. Single Time.
