Every week I join a special group of friends to write for FIVE MINUTES. No editing. No revising. Just WRITE. For just five mmintues. Over the course of the past year, I’ve realized some of the purest words come from this special time. You can find more information here.
This week our prompt is: Haven
A place of softness. Cool breezes. Not too hot. Not too cold. A place, mostly to rest. In my bed at night. A quiet moment with the littles all gone. A season of silence. A time away from busyness. Even five minutes to write is quickly interrupted. A season of littles is not necessary a season of rest.
With four of them, someone always wakes up, or stays up, or gets up. Too early. Not enough sleep. A place I can rest seems like a cruel joke. So needed, mommas. But rarely taken. So desired and sought after, but so illusive it seems like it will never come. The seasons of life are not meant to be either a time of rest, or a time of work.
Abide in Christ means to both rest and work. A season of finding my haven in the Father. Daily seeking Him. Even for just five minutes. Read His Word. Spend a quick minute in prayer. One minute is longer than no minutes. My circumstances, when all of my children are grown, will not bring me to a season of rest. I will not wake up when the youngest is gone to find a haven in my home.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2
The shadow of the Almighty is not find in one season or another. It is a haven for anyone. At anytime. No matter the state of my heart, or my life, God is my refuge. Always a place I can turn. I don’t have to be under attack to seek His refuge. Sometimes the ordinary days are the toughest day. Sometimes the normal 24 hours in a day are enough to find me seeking His presence. A haven. A place of rest.
Oh God, may I enter you rest, even today. As we head to the zoo. With littles getting no sleep and momma is already tired after a cup of coffee. Be my haven. Let me take ten minutes to read your word and let it soak into my heart today. Even for today. Oh my God, let me rest in You. Your love. Your control. Your strength. Let me work with You today. Do the tasks. Loving the people. Abiding.
