Start the timer for 5 minutes….and begin.
To make, create and mix together. Brew. To stir and let it steep. We aren’t big tea drinkers in our house, yet sometimes the aroma of the brewing is enough to stir in me a desire to drink it. My husband loves to experiment with different teas. Although I’ll sip, I won’t actually drink a lot of tea.
Letting it steep is sometimes where I get a little impatient. Just like in my own life, I don’t want to wait long enough for the tea to be drawn out. I want to rush ahead with the sugar and milk. I want to enjoy it.
Spiritual discipline is the same way. I have areas in my life I wish I did better: my prayer life, my Bible reading and journaling. Yet, I don’t let those things brew. I don’t make enough room in my life for those things to steep. To develop any type of spiritual discipline, it takes time and work. The brewing is done in secret.
We all know how life works: the hot water of difficult circumstances brings out necessary characteristics. Instead, I think the heartaches bring out what was already there. So, while the difficult season seems to be right on the edge, it is in this time of brewing I can gather to myself the spiritual discipline that will be needed.
So I’m in a season of brewing. A season of preparing and getting ready. It may seem normal and boring to be in such a season, but in all reality the season of preparation and brewing is the perfect season for God to do a work in our hearts.
Something special happens in October. A community of bloggers and writers gather for 31 Days of Writing. For an extra little challenge, I’ll be also participating in 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes.
31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes is a “challenge within the challenge,” so to speak — namely, to post on your blog every day in the month of October, but to write each post in only five minutes flat.
If you are interested in joining the fun, check out Christina’s page here.
Here is the list of the word prompts for 31 Days of Five Minute – Free Writes.
