I need a date night. I’m a momma of four little ones and I need a date night. But let’s be honest. Four children. One special needs. We are a little intimidating. Baby-sitters are harder to come by. So, my husband and I have started coming up with dates at home.
What do you like to do with your special person for date-night?
At home, we’ve discovered we are both pretty evenly matched at Scrabble. It is my all-time favorite game (hello, words!?). So I’ve been trying to beat him. He is more competitive and more strategic than I am, so I usually lose. It is a fun way to turn the T.V. off, look at each other while still relaxing and talking.
Dates mean more now, after four kids. We are lookingwoard to next week. We will be going out of town – kid FREE! I’ll be attending the Hope*Writer’s workshop, he will get to explore Charlotte. Win-win. Of all of the years we’ve been married, this past nineteen months have been the hardest. It has tested us to the very edge. I don’t know what the future holds, but going through the hard things, and I’m not just talking about adoption, strengthened us. It also showed us how marriage is a tightrope walk.
I think we realized how strong but how fragile our marriage truly is. Marriage is meant to be strong – and I would use that word to describe us, but it is also very very delicate. Anything can break it, so being cautious and intentionally remaining close is a must. So, we still go on dates. Or have them at home. Either way – at the end of each day we do our best to “connect.”
