Off. Turning it off. Turning it on. Seems like the two go together. Whether its the T.V., lights, phones, or music, we turn it on and turn it off. Off reminds me of silence. And darkness. At night we turn it all off. We try to turn our brains off, but sometimes we lay awake with thoughts, dreams and worries, swirling around. To turn it off, we must embrace the silence. Embrace the quiet, the darkness, and the season life has for us.
Some seasons we must be on….moving, pushing, working, and running around. Some seasons are for sitting, stillness, and being off. Its funny, how my heart is always looking for more rush. Its like my body and soul can’t seem to find comfort unless they are moving.
Be still and know that I am God.
But seasons of silence are the seasons God seems to be found the easiest. Sitting still has never been a strong suite for me. It is activity I crave, but deep inside, I know activity will only drive me farther from His presence. To know God, His glory, is found in the stillness. In the rest season, when I turn off the phone, the music, the T.V., and let the darkness wrap around me, do I find His light. When I turn off my tiny little flashlight, I can see the stars light up the sky.
So let me sit, no matter if my schedule is full and my life is busy. Let me find time to pray. To simply be. Turn off my frantic, and find peace – in His word.
