The Glorious Ordinary is an invitation.
It isn’t a book, but a story. Last year God threw me into the deep end of the pool. He sent me on a path I didn’t choose. I longed to find myself again, but instead I found Him. The Glorious Ordinary* is not just an invitation to study God’s Word, it is a way back. A way to come back around and find Him again.
Maybe you are struggling with adoption. Infertility. Cancer. Chronic pain. Job loss. Grief. Loneliness. Marriage. Don’t wait for a season of normal—look for peace today. It is in the ordinary we find the glory of God. He is in the small things, the daily things. He is where we are. Our lives center around the 24-hour period. He is in our hours, our minutes, and even the seconds ticking along.
I have been the waiting woman. Going through the adoption process is a desperate type of waiting. I have felt the fear of the unknown. A life in limbo is filled with ups and downs and lots of hidden anxiety. I’ve also lived a year of unexpected hard things. It was a year of change and struggle. Parenting a child from a hard place reveals a whole lot of your own failures and shortcomings. Their hurt reveals your own hurt. I’ve messed up, and the dark places of my heart have come to light. I’ve had to confess a lot of mistakes. God is even in the darkness.
This book is about walking one day at a time. Even though walking is so ordinary, don’t get discouraged. I understand that the deepest part of your heart just wants this hard place to be over. I ask you to walk through whatever circumstance you are facing one day at a time with me. You aren’t alone and you are made to be exceptional, right here.
It does require the supernatural grace of God to live twenty-four hours in every day as a saint – to go through drudgery as a disciple, to live an ordinary, unobserved, ignored existence as a disciple of Jesus. It is inbred of us that we have to do exceptional things for God; but we have not. We have to be exceptional in the ordinary things, to be holy in mean streets, among mean people. – Oswald Chambers My Utmost for His Highest
Living a glorious ordinary life means learning how to be exceptional for God in our ordinary days.
