How to Have Peace, When Life is Out of Control

Jesus also knew we would fear, so He said: “Let not your heart be troubled.”

How?! How do we have peace, when life is out of control?

The answer is simple, easy, and yet so very difficult to remember. Call. Know. Be Silent.

Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness!
    You have given me relief when I was in distress.
    Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!

O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame?
    How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah
 But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself;
    the Lord hears when I call to him.

Be angry, and do not sin;
    ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah
Offer right sacrifices,
    and put your trust in the Lord.

There are many who say, “Who will show us some good?
    Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord!”
You have put more joy in my heart
    than they have when their grain and wine abound.

In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
    for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. – Psalm 4

Call out to God in your distress. Pray. Write it out, say aloud your trouble. Use your words to reach out to God. Spend some time each day reaching out and pouring out your heart to God. David, in Psalm 4, told God how he felt life was just so unjust! Don’t neglect the power of prayer. I don’t necessarily like to fall asleep praying, because I feel like I’m talking to God and I want to be fully present. But sometimes while I’m lying on my bed I need to commune with my God as I drift off into sleep. What better way to end your day then to connect with Him?

Know the Person you are trusting. When we are worried, fearful, or overwhelmed it is mostly because we have forgotten God. We are not trusting His unchanging heart. God is hearing you! God is worthy of trust. Jesus is with you, abiding in you even now.

Are you looking unto Jesus now, in the immediate matter that is pressing and receiving from Him peace?…If you try to worry it out, you obliterate Him and deserve all you get…..Lay it all out before Him, and in the face of difficulty, bereavement and sorrow, hear Him say, “Let not your heart be troubled.” – Oswald Chambers

The more you know Jesus, the more peace will surround your heart. He is limitless in power and knowledge. He is 100% loving and kind and good. Knowing God is found in reading His word. A great place to start reading is here.

 Be silent and mediate. The peace will not come in an instant sometimes. Ponder in your heart how you can trust the LORD. Think while you fall asleep at night all the ways He has been good to you. Offer worship to Him, even when your heart is hurting. The suffering you face is not foreign to Him. Jesus is acquainted with all of our sufferings. Joy is coming. Peace is found in beings silent and trusting God.

Dear Father, of God of my righteousness. I am not right or good without you. O God who hears, listen to my prayer today. It is true that others mock me for loving you. But I have seen the goodness of your hand. The protection of your arms. The Lord, my Yahweh sets me apart to love you. You are loving and kind. You are limitless in power and knowledge. You hear my whispered prayers in the middle of the night. It is hard to trust you in the night season, but I will refuse to be angry or upset. I will trust in you, O Lord. I will lie down and sleep in peace for you, alone make me dwell in safety. Amen

Blessings!

  1. Great prayer! And the Psalms are so good for bringing peace when we read them, pray them, and believe them.
    God bless you with His grace and peace!
