Its time for Five Minute Friday. Five minutes. No edits. No revisions. Set the timer….Go!
As a momma of four little ones I don’t have many moments I can breathe. I am woken up with cries and when I finally put them to bed at night I’m too tired to do anything productive, or even think sometimes. So having moments to breathe are few and far between.
I’ve recently (in the past couple of weeks) started getting up early. I get up and quietly make my way downstairs. I don’t even put on my glasses, take a shower, or get ready. I just hop out of bed and go to the kitchen. Greeting me is my coffee, all ready to go. I have one of those pots you can prepare the night before and set the timer to kick on in the morning.
I pour a cup of coffee, tip toe to my desk which is in a corner of my kitchen, and pull out my Bible. I spend time in prayer and reading while the sky is still dark outside. It works for me. It has given me a few minutes to breathe before I need to start my day. I get to watch the sky turn from dark to light, I get to confess my sins from yesterday, and receive just enough grace for today.
My days aren’t perfect, and in fact yesterday would be what I would categorize as a “bad mom” day. Today is a new day though. Today I can find pockets of time to breathe by making it a priority.
My children are not going to automatically leave me alone or not need me for a period of time during the day. So getting up early works for me. Plus, my husband says I’m a morning person. Either way, it is HARD to get out of the warm bed and go downstairs everyday. But I do it because I know I will be a better mom, wife, and Christ-girl if I take the time to breathe.
