Time for Five Minute Friday!!! Five minutes. No edits. No revisions. Set the timer….Go!
When people come to visit my house, I wonder what they see. Sometimes I’ll take a look around and notice everyday things I hadn’t noticed before. A cluttered counter space. Or a stain on the carpet. I’ll see the fingerprints on the glass door and then I’ll start to wonder if my house a “smell.” Not necessary a dirty smell, but a weird smell.
I wonder, do I think about my attitude in the same way? The tone of voice and the choice of words I use when I speak to my children? If someone were constantly listening, would it change the way I spoke to them? The Lord has been gently reminding me, a writer who loves to words, that the spoken word is just as important as the one on paper. In fact, my children don’t read my words (yet) but they hear them.
Does what I write reflect what a say in real life? Do I take notice of the inflection and voice and everyday voice I use? The flaws aren’t always easy to see. The harsh tone is sometimes hard to dectect. So if a visitor came to my house, sat down and stayed awhile – I think she would remember the corrective voice instead of the sticky table.
And the voice of the Spirit whispers to me, Isn’t what your children hear more important than what others hear? I wonder if I treated the words I speak as delicately as the words I write: I wouldn’t have to feel ashamed.
May God continue to visit my life, my soul, and my heart to remind me of where I need to grow and change.
