Every Friday I join a group of writers and we only write for five minutes. No edits. No revisions. Set the timer. Write. Stop. Publish. Join the fun and read more about Five Minute Friday here.
Today’s prompt is: GUIDE
A guide makes me think of a leader. A person who steps up, takes charge, and makes change. A guide is someone who shows the way. I think about my life: Who has been my guide? And have I guided well?
Who has been my guide?
Lots of people have guided, shaped, and lead my life – both physically and spiritually. Friends, mentors, family, and others. They have shown a light on the path. Other guides were books. Words and sentences and paragraphs and stories weaving together can show the way, when I’ve been lost.
Jesus used Words. He was the Word. And the Word became flesh. To not just tell us about God, but to guide us to God.
Have I guided well?
Recently I’ve had the opportunity to meet with a couple of people to help guide them, talk with them, and lead them to Jesus (hopefully) – and it is all well and good, but I am convicted: the little girl who is singing and plucking at the piano right now as I type this – do I guide her? More than just teaching her the letters and sounds. More than just showing her the way to be a girl….a woman….am I guiding her to Jesus?
A perfect guide will never be lost. No matter the path – whether overgrown or worn – the guide will keep going, and know the turns to take. I can’t be the perfect guide. And God is sometimes a mysterious being – but guiding through His Word is a sure. A perfect guide for how live. A perfect guide for how to follow. A perfect guide for how to guide.
